Therapy for Adults & Adolescents
“The process of art therapy is based on the recognition
that man’s most fundamental thoughts and feelings,
derived from the unconscious, reach expression in
images rather than in words. By means of pictorial
projection, art therapy encourages a method of symbolic
communication between patient and therapist.”
Margaret Naumberg
Therapy for adolescents and adults is mostly an
individual endeavor. An adolescents’ family may be
incorporated into the therapy process to support
communication and healthy individuation at this time of
one’s life. Individual therapy for adolescents and adults
focuses on the internal psychological system, helping the
individual reflect on their sense of self, relatedness to
others, personal development and general functioning. Art
Therapy and Sandtray therapy may be employed, along with
cognitive-behavioral interventions and stress reduction.
