ABOUT MARIA

Maria Phillips earned her master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University. Prior to joining Parent to Child Therapy Associates, she provided art therapy services for children, adolescents, and their families in a partial hospitalization program, residential care facility, hospice care, and in-home therapy setting. She has supported clients and their families in navigating a range of challenges including grief/ loss, intimate partner violence, depression, anxiety, and specific neurodevelopmental needs.

Through creative processing and collaborative goal setting with parents or caregivers, she strives to create a therapeutic experience that aligns with clients’ developmental and emotional needs, family needs and patterns, strengths, values, and cultural identity. Maria’s approach to art therapy integrates evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches including eco-systemic structural family therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. Throughout the therapeutic process, Maria hopes that clients experience growth in their ability to navigate difficult emotions and conflict while developing new skills to improve their relationship with themselves and develop healthy relationship patterns with others.
